  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

In order to clarify neurochemical specificities of glial cell, the author studied metabolic changes in reactive tissue after slashed onto one side of frontal lobe of rat brain, which consisted mainly of glial cells in electromicroscopical observation.

Neurochemical results are demonstrated as follow-ing :

1) Enzyme activities of Lactic dehydrogenase, Malic dehydrogenase and Na-K-dependent ATPase were higher in normal tissues than in gliosis. On the contrary, Carbonic anhydrase activity and Mg-dependent ATPase were higher in gliosis than in normal.

2) Contents of free amino acids, especially as-partic acid, glycine and alanine in gliosis tissues decreased compared with normal tissues in one month after slashed operation.

3) 14C-Radioactivities from C-U-glucose were actively incorporated into glutamine, glutamic acid, aspartic acid and GABA in glial slices same as in normal.

4) D-, L-glutamic acids which were interperito-neally injected into brain, were incorporated to normal tissues higher than the gliosis tissues.

Incorporating contents of D-tyrosine was rather higher in gliosis tissues than in normal tissues. But L-tyrosine contents was almost same as normal tissues.

These metabolic specificities of reactive prolif-erative gliosis tissues might be related to some functional disorders in post-injured brain.
