  • Look Inside

Jolting headache can be originated in intracranial organic lesions, because the threthold to pain of intracranial structures is lowered by such lesions.

Author studied on sixty six intracranial space occupying lesions and proved jolting headache in 67% (detailed percentages ; chronic subdural he-matomas 71%, chiasmal region tumors 85%, other supratentrial tumors 61%, acoustic tumors 30% and other infratentrial tumors 80%). The location of jolting headache was illustrated in Fig. 2.

Although jolting headache is not always noticed, when it is positive, the origin of headache might be considered as intracranial origin, and could be inferred the location of tumor also. In conclusion, this simple examination is valuable in diagnosis of headache due to intracranial organic lesions.
