  • Look Inside

Since August 1957, the authors have been engaged in this study. Temposil (Lederle),a slow release tablet, being a combination of calcium carbimide and citric acid, was given to 5 cornal adult volunteers, 3 psychopathicsand 16 alcoholics, totaling 24, in the present report of experiments.

At tirst, the typical Temposil-alcohol rea-ction, both subjective and objective, which was obtained by the authors as the results of experiences of 50-odd test dose, was men-tioned. And then, some comparisons between both Temposil-alcohol and Antabuse-alcohol symdroms were made. Finally, twenty four actual cases of abstinence by use of this drug were described in detail.

Basing upon the above-mentioned data, the pharmacological action of Temposil was com-mented trom various standpoints of view, to-gether with the effective dose of Temposil, the method of administration, and the tech-nique of testing.

Temposil might, the authors concluded, be considered useful not only as an adjuvant to Antabuse but also as a new independent anti-alcoholism agent, because there were only negligible side-effects. The Temposil treat-ment should, of course, be combined with ps-ychotherapy.
