We investigated backgrounds, symptoms, and outcomes between two inpatient groups at our hospital from 2011 to 2013 retrospectively:kiken drug (or dappou drug, designer drug)-induced psychosis group (kiken drug group) is of all 19 patients at our hospital. The other, schizophrenia group, is of 20 patients randomly sampled from patients during the same term by matching in sex and age with kiken drug group. Kiken drug group is characterized by less experience of admission, higher social adjustment, higher police record, similar profile of psychiatric syndromes based on AMDP system, and less amount of antipsychotics to treat. There are two limitations in our study. Observation of courses is only in acute phase, and patients with severe neurological symptoms for our institution are eliminated. As long-term impact of kiken drug is unclear, further prognosis study is expected.
