A 50-year-old man, who was diagnosed as depressive and prescribed anti-depressant and anti-psychotic medications without improvement, became more introverted and socially withdrawn. Sudden death occurred 2.5 years after the onset of his illness. At autopsy, a massive hemorrhage was discovered in the retroperitoneal cavity. It was regarded as the cause of sudden death. Neuropathology revealed leptomeningeal hypertrophy with focal meningitis and macrophages with hemosiderin scattered around blood vessels in the subcortical white matter of the frontal and temporal lobes. These pathological findings are considered to have caused the organic brain syndrome in this patient.
