Summary

Quality of life (QOL) in people with schizophrenia is an important subject of interest. However, conventional scales are not practical for various reasons. Recently, Wikinson et al. developed a new self-completing QOL scale, “The Schizophrenia Quality of Life Scale (SQLS)”, Which addressed the perceptions and concerns of individuals with schizophrenia. Its primary use in intended to be in clinical trials and related forms of evaluation of interventions. The SQLS is a thirty-item questionnaire, and provides scores on three subscales (psychosocial, motivation/energy, and symptoms/side effects). The SQLS has been shown to be reliable, validated and practical. Therefore, for its clinical application, we prepared the Japanese-language version of the SQLS (JSQLS). The JSQLS was made through back-translation into English, which was checked by the original author of the scale.
