Summary

Repetitive behavior (e.g., polydipsia, bulimia, hoarding, mannerisms) is frequently observed in schizophrenic patients and occasionally causes significant morbidity. Recently, to quantify a set of symptoms not sufficiently categorized under the terms“positive” or “negative” symptoms, Luchins et al. developed the Elgin Behavioral Rating Scale (EBRS). The EBRS utilizes a seven-point scale for rating the absence or presence of nine repetitive types of behavior in schizophrenic patients. So far, except for polydipsia or smoking, repetitive behavior in schizophrenic patients has not been fully investigated. In addition, some repetitive types of behavior are known to be able to be readily reproduced in animal models. Therefore, for better recognition of repetitive behavior in schizophrenic patients, and clarification of its mechanisms, we prepared the Japanese-language version (JEBRS).
