Extensive studies of a protein factor fromblood of schizophrenic patients have beencarried out over the past seven years byJohn R. Bergen and me at the WorcesterFoundation in collaboration with R. B. Pennelland Calvin Saravis of the Protein Foundationand Harry Freeman of the Medfield StateHospital.
We have found a factor in the globulinfractions of human plasma that disturbs alearned behavior pattern in rats after themanner of that of LSD and other psychotomimetic drugs. The rat assay measures increased time required to climb a rope for afood reward after injecting the active substance.
