  • Look Inside

To assess the effects of recanalization of occluded aorto-coronary saphenous vein bypass graft, weexamined 6 patients who underwent percutaneous trans-luminal angioplasty after the occlusion of the graft. Five of the 6 patients had elective and the remaining one experienced urgent angioplasty. The results of the angioplasty was found to be successful in 4 patients (67%) and unsuccessful in the remainder (33%). Two of the 6 patients had complications, including distal embolization in one and transient abrupt graft closure of the treated segment in another one. However, none of the patients developed major complications such as the need for emergent coronary artery bypass grafting. Q wave myocardial infarction, and death. These results suggest that percutaneous transluminal angioplasty is a safe and effective procedure for recanalizing the occlud-ed aorto-coronary saphenous vein graft.
