The clinical experience of 30 patients with measurement of the activated clotting time (ACT) for the control of heparin and protamine dose during cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) was reviewed.

The baseline ACT was 130±12 sec.

Initial dose of heparin was 2mg/kg in 14 patients, and 3mg/kg in 16 patients. In these two groups, simply dose-response curves were drawn by connecting the two points ; baseline ACT and ACT after initial dose.

In the inclination of dose-response curves, there was no difference statistically between two groups.
