  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

The effect of methyl viologen (MV) was examined on phospholipid metabolism in cultured human type 2 pneumocytes, A-549 cells. MV inhibited the incorporation of acetate into phosphatydylcholine (PC) and into ethanolamine by 82% and 88%. MV inihibited that of palmitic acid into phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) by 42% but not into PC. MV also inhibited that of choline into PC and ethanolamine by 55% and 73%. Methylation pathway from ethanolamine to PC through PE was absent in A-549 cells.
