This paper describes an application of the acoustic method to volumetric study of respiration. The preliminary experiment showed that the low frequency sound of 200 Hz was appropriate to record the respiratory movement. The sound of 200 Hz generated by a speaker was transmitted into the respiratory system from the mouth and the transmitted sound was detected by a PCG microphone on the chest wall through the thoracic cage.
