人工心臓移植動物の死亡原因は血栓症,低心拍出症と肺合併症が主なものである。人工心肺を使用して移植術をおこなうと人工心臓作動開始直後に肺動脈圧は昂進し,動脈血酸素飽和度は低下している1)。また移植直後の肺機能不全から回復し,良好な経過をとっても,進行性の低心拍出症におちいったり,血栓症が発現すると,肺機能および酸塩基平衡は悪化する。
われわれは人の大きさの血液循環を十分維持できる人工心臓を製作し,仔牛を使用して肺機能の研究をすすめている。
An air-driven sac-type and a diaphragm-type artificial heart have been designed and orthotopically planted in 22 calves. Nine of these artificial hearts were of the sac-type and 13 of the diaphragm-type. Postoperative pulmonary complication, low cardiac output and convulsion caused by thromboembolism were main causes of death. The animals that died after less than six hours of pumping died mainly due to acute pulmonary complication. Death of animals after less than 12 hours of pumping was mainly caused by low cardiac output. All animals that survived longer than 12 hours died as a result of convulsions.
