In clinical practice, metastatic gastrointestinal tumors are relatively uncommon metastasis. According to autopsy reports, the most common site of metastasis is the small intestine or colon. Lung cancer, breast cancer, and malignant melanoma are relatively common primary tumors besides nearby organs. Furthermore, malignant lymphoma, gastrointestinal stromal tumor, and NET(neuroendocrine tumor)have primary or metastatic tumors in the gastrointestinal tract. CT(computed tomography)is commonly used for the examination of these tumors, and FDG-PET/CT(fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography with CT)is useful for systemic recurrence investigation and staging. Somatostatin receptor scintigraphy is a technique used to detect NET. Appropriate application of these modalities may result in early detection of metastases and appropriate treatment strategies.
