An 83-year-old male with fecal occult blood underwent colonoscopy and was found to have a submucosal tumor(diameter, 3cm)in the transverse colon. The submucosal tumor was relatively soft, formed a constriction, and had a somewhat irregular surface along with a small ulcer. Surgical resection was performed without biopsy-based diagnosis. Histopathological analysis revealed solid proliferation of round cells with eosinophilic cytoplasm. Findings of immunohistochemical and genetic analyses established the diagnosis of perivascular epithelioid cell tumor of the transverse colon.
