The gastrointestinal tract is the primary site where the extranodal malignant lymphomas develop most frequently. In this article, we describe following 4 types of gene translocations that are closely associated with specific gastrointestinal lymphoma subtypes :(1)API2-MALT1 in mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue(MALT)lymphoma ;(2)BCL2/IGH in follicular lymphoma ;(3)CCND1/IGH in mantle cell lymphoma ; and(4)MYC/IGH in Burkitt lymphoma. In Japan, adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma often reveal gastrointestinal. Although no genetic abnormalities specific to this type of lymphoma are known, monoclonal integration of HTLV-1 provirus has a diagnostic value.
