Two cases of multiple CTs(carcinoid tumors, 2010 WHO classification : NET G1)of the ileum were pathologically examined. Case 1 is contained twenty CTs(14 microscopical and 6 microscopical CTs, largest tumor : 10mm in size, deepest invading tumor : subserosa)and case 2 is contained 6 CTs(5 macroscopical and 1 microscopical CT, largest tumor : 18mm in size, deepest invading tumor : subserosa). Lymph nodal metastasis was found in both cases. Macroscopic CTs showed submucosal tumor-like elevated lesion, yellow color of tumor tissue, yellow minute granular pattern of mucosal surface, disappearance of mucosal pattern, erosion, and shallow ulceration. Tumor cells of larger CTs(>10mm)and deeper invading CTs(>muscularis propria)showed histological findings suggestive of increased malignant grade such as cellular/nuclear atypia, mitosis, increased Ki-67 index, lymphatic and venous invasion. Histochemically, CTs of both cases were argentaffin serotonin-producing CTs. Eleven cases of multiple CTs of the ileum reported in the Japanese literature were analyzed.
