  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

A man 35 years of age having no complaints was admitted to the authors' hospital because deformity of the antrum had been noticed at a gastric mass survey.

No definite clues were given by x-ray, except deformity of the gastric contour from above the angle down to the antrum together with fairly well-defined, rough and large mucosal folds coursing in an abnormal way. The aspect of the mucosa changed as the time Went by. It was the same with the gastrocamera pictures: slightly irregular hemispheric elevations lied scattered about in an area encircling the lesser curvature above the angle, but no noticiable change of the mucosal surface was seen, and the elevations changed their shapes according to the introduced amount of air. Gastrectomy was done under a suspicion of a soft mucosal lesion of large dimensions.

The resected specimen revealed a very large, soft protrusion, measuring 9.5×8.7×0.7 cm. Abnormal course of the mucosal folds was seen, forming a groove. No ulcer was noticed.

Histopathologically, full-blown hyperplasia of adipose tissues was noticed, extending from the submucosa all the way through the muscle coat to the subserosa. As it was not encapsulated, this tumor was considered to be not a typical lipoma but belonging to the category of lipomatosis.
