  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Statistical analyses of perforation in gastric and duodenal ulcers have been attempted on a nationside scale during the six years from 1965 to 1970.

Collected cases of perforation due to gastric ulcer amounted to 235 and those of duodenal origin to 491.

By correlating ulcers of the stomach with those of duodenum, the authors have investigated them in detail as to chronological changes in the occurrence of perforation, its incidence as determined by sex, age and regional distribution, its initial symptoms, predisposing causes, the percentage of correct diagnosis prior to operation, significance of erroneous diagnosis, the relationship of prognosis with the length of time elapsed since its first examination up to surgical correction.
