We reported two cases of patients with esophageal cancer who had undergone x-ray examinations more than one year before the diagnosis. These radiographic findings were analyzed retrospectively. In the first case, a fine granular elevation measuring 28 mm in diameter developed into a cancer measuring 43 mm in diameter, which was superficial and protruded type. The doubling time was estimated to be 8.6 months during the observation period of 16 months. Histologic finding of the resected specimen revealed moderately differentiated squamous cell carcinoma invading the submucosa.

In the second case, a flat elevation with nodularity measuring 24 mm in diameter developed into a cancer measuring 28 mm in diameter, which was superficial and protruded type with two distant intramural metastases. The doubling time was estimated to be 31.4 months during the course of 21 months. Histologically, the lesion was poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinoma invading the submucosa.
