  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Ten patients with ulcerative colitis(7 men,3 women;the mean age 12.7 years old;age of onset 11 to 14 years old)who had developed symptoms for the first time in their childhood were followed-up from March,1986, to December,1990 at our hospital.

Backgrounds of the disease and clinical features were not significantly different from those of adult onset type ulcerative colitis. However, child onset type better responded to steroid hormone therapy, except for a case of chronic persistent type.Discontinuation of drugs often resulted in relapse.

It is suggested that the prognosis of this disease can be improved by further modifying steroid therapy and patient education.
