In this article, we describe the following :(1)the pathological issues in FAP(familial adenomaotous polyposis),(2)abbrevations, synonyms, and definitions in FAP and its related lesions,(3)the correlation with alterations in apc, p53 and K-ras, and the formation and progression of colon adenomas and carcinomas,(4)reviews of flat and depressed tumors in FAP. In conclusion, it occurs due to the activation of Wnt signal pathway that gives rise to the colorectal adenoma of FAP and sporadic adenoma. The following tumorigenesis correlated with the abnormalities of p53 and, K-ras and COX-2. Therefore the tumor of flat or depressed or nonpolypoid type arises in patients of FAP, but, the submucosal invasive flat/depressed carcinoma(less than 1cm in diameter)and flat adenoma, more than 1cm, are rare. We stressed that careful reading of the these references is recommended for details about the genetic abnormalities and definitions of the flat/depressed tumor in FAP.
