This report presents the findings on speech-language-hearing therapy processes from a survey conducted by the Subcommittee on Convalescent Rehabilitation of the Academic Research Department of the Japanese Association of Speech-Language-Hearing Therapists. The survey targeted convalescent rehabilitation wards and was conducted from June 12 to August 18, 2023. Valid responses were obtained from 108 facilities and 211 wards. Regarding standard assessments for each disorder, many facilities selected the Standard Language Test for Aphasia (SLTA) for aphasia, the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) for higher brain dysfunction, the Assessment of Motor Speech for Dysarthria (AMSD) for dysarthria, and bedside clinical assessments for dysphagia. In terms of therapy, both functional and activity-based approaches were implemented across different disorder areas. Overall, evaluation and training processes were structured in alignment with the characteristics of convalescent rehabilitation. However, several challenges remained, including the standardization of evaluation processes for each disorder, the introduction of assessment tools and therapeutic equipment, and providing return-to-work support. Additionally, the establishment of support and guidance for patients with age-related hearing loss was identified as an urgent issue.
