Abstract

Our decision making and choosing which attitude to take when we face disaster and risk are said to be determined by images and cognition we have for them. Here, in this research, our goal being to investigate cognition for infections disease, factors that have influence on it and to seek which way to lead the study of risk control, our investigation extends to research on risk cognition of infections disease by using risk image criteria of Teigen(1988). In order to clarify the 3 variables, medical knowledge, direct contact with group infections disease and level of knowledge about infections disease, we assigned 42 nurses who actually nursed in group infections disease to Group A, 43 victims who are of the same group infections disease to Group B, 46 nurses who have medical knowledge to Group C, 46 nursing students who have some medical knowledge to Group D and 77 college students and working people who have neither contact to group infections disease nor any medical knowledge to Group E. As a result, in risk perception consisting of two factors, Dread risk and Unknown risk, average points of Unknown risk was generally low. The level of knowledge somewhat correlated inversely(r =-.178〜-.491, p<.05)to points of Unknown factor of all infections disease risk, thus resulted in low risk points in both factors in risk among participants with medical knowledge. Also, nursing with direct contact reduced risk cognition and increased harm caused by direct contact. Fourth quadrant of space of the 2 factors, Dread risk and Unknown risk, suggest the possibility of a stable course for risk cognition of infections disease.
