　英文編集者：CBE Views，これは生物学編集者学会のニュースレターですが，これのいちばん新しい号に，“The accuracy of medical journal references”という題の論文が出ています．この論文は私にとっておもしろく，またショックでもありました．私は毎日，引用文献のリストにかかわる仕事をしています．それで，おもしろいと感じたのです．つまり，引用文献のリストというのは，私が編集しているちゃんとした論文には全部ついているものだからです．私がショックを受けたのは，著者Dr．Alfred Yankauerが報告した調査結果によるものでした．Yankauerは，文献リストの中の間違い（“citation errors”という）と，本文中で他の人の仕事について述べている箇所での間違い（“quotation errors”という）と，この二つの問題に関し，論文とレターと論説を調べるために医学文献を探索しました．さらにまた，自分が編集をしている雑誌に投稿された論文について，引用文献リストの調査を行いました．

English editor : In the most recent newsletter of the Council of Biology Editors,① CBE Views,② there is an article entitled “The accuracy of medical journal references.”③ It both interested and shocked me. I'm interested because I work daily with reference lists, which are part of every regular paper④ I edit. I was shocked because of the findings reported by the author, Dr. Alfred Yankauer. He searched the medical literature for papers, letters, and editorials about the problem of mistakes in the reference list (called “citation errors”) and mistakes where the work of others is mentioned in the text (called “quotation errors”). He also did a survey of the reference lists in papers submitted to a journal that he edits. Junior technologist : How did the author do the research for this paper?
