インフルエンザは毎年流行を繰り返し，罹患者数の多い疾患である．抗ウイルス剤が使用可能な今日においても，インフルエンザは予防すべき疾患であり，予防対策の第1選択はワクチン接種である．現行の不活化インフルエンザワクチンは，年長児や健康成人には有効性が認められるが，高齢者や基礎疾患を有する者，乳幼児では十分な発症阻止効果を得られない．より有効で安全なワクチンを求めて，生ワクチンを含む新しい剤型開発，経鼻接種など投与ルートの変更，様々なアジュバントの利用などが研究されている．

Seasonal influenza repeats epidemic every year, with large number of the patients.　We can use antiviral medication, but influenza should be prevented, and the first choice of preventive procedure is vaccination.　As for the inactivated influenza vaccine used now, although efficacy is recognized by older children and a healthy adult, it is insufficient for a senior citizen, a person having underlying disease and infants.　For more effective and safer influenza vaccine, studies about new vaccine development including live vaccine, change of inoculation route, and use of various adjuvants are ongoing.
