  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

The causes, manifestations and laboratory findings in 22 patients with scuba dive accident who visited the outpatient clinic of our department have been discussed. The most typical hazard to the biginner in scuba diving is aural disorders due to Eustachian tubal insufficiency. An air pressure of about 3 meters H2O (0.3 ATA) is accepted as an indicator for the disorders, and if the candidate diver is unable to deaerate the middle ears at this pressure, he should train himself until he becomes able to deaerate. Attention should be called to the fact that about 12% of people living in atmospheric environment have no experience in deaerating or knowledge of how to deaerate. To prevent the rapidly increasing scuba divers from pressure injury, the teaching of how to deaerate to them is an imminent problem.
