I．はじめに
著者らはさきに本誌に両側の急激な難聴のおきた2症例の側頭骨の所見を報告し1），その中で，2年後に2症例の突発性の感音性難聴の側頭骨を報告すると予告した。51年12月が丁度その約束の月にあたるのでそれを報告し，諸家のご批判を仰ぎたい。
Clinical findings of sudden deafness are followed by post mortem pathological examinations of temporal bone in two cases.
Case 1. A woman, aged 38, suffered from sudden deafness in both ears, a 50-60dB hearing loss,three years before her death. She died of mycosis fungoides. The patient was conservatively treated with administration of corticosteroids and vitamin for deafness. The hearing was completely recovered in 2 weeks of treatment. There was no remarkable pathological findings in the post mortem examination of the temporal bone and particularly the organ of corti, stria vascularis, spiral ligament nor the spiral ganglion cells.
Case 2. A woman, aged 38, who had suffered from the onset of sudden deafness in the right ear 25 years before her death. She died of epipharyngeal cancer. The post mortem examination revealed the invasion of the left ear, also, by cancer growths. The most obvious changes were disappearance of spiral ganglion cells, the shrinkage of organ of corti and tectorial membrane without the loss of hair cells in all turns in the right ear.
