Abbe flapは有茎弁の1種で上口唇の組織欠損に対し，下口唇の正常組織を移動する方法で，一名Switch flapとも呼ばれ，下口唇の冠状動脈を利用したArterial flapである（動脈を含んだ有茎弁）。
上口唇の組織欠損を起こす原因は，悪性腫瘍，水癌や，唇裂による手術後の瘢痕拘縮などによつても起こるが，Abbe flapを使用する目的は以下の事項であるとわれわれは考えている。
1）下口唇から上口唇への組織の移動。
2）上口唇自体の形の再現。
3）上下口唇のbalanceの改善。
4）人中（philtrum），cupid's bowの再現。
5） dimpleの再現。
The author discusses the rationale of the usage of Abbe flap and its clinical vantage points. The chronology of the usage is also reviewed.
In clinical application of the Abbe flap for correction of secondary deformities due to cleft palate, the following points should be considered:
(1) In tissue transplantation from the lower to the upper lip.
(2) Improvement of balance between the lower and upper lips.
(3) The appearance of the upper lip.
(4) The reconstruction of the cupid's bow, the philtrum and the dimple.
In order to fulfill the above mentioned conditions, the author devices his own procedure in the use of Abbe flap.
