　Ⅰ．緒言

　従来，サントニン中毒症に関しては，高谷，荒川，清水，京等幾多の報告例が見られるが，「サ」中毒に起因する致死例のそれは，僅に三例を数えるのみである。

　即ち，坂巻は，21歳♂，蛔虫症といわれて神経衰弱気味になり，11日間に，約0.6gの多量を服用して，黄疸症状出現し，8日目には突然盲目となり，脳症状を併発し，遂に死の転帰を取つた症例を，吉沢は，2歳2ヵ月6♂，「サ」0.03g服用後，肝腫大と嚥下困難，呼吸困難の為，服用54時間後に死亡した症例を，又石田・藤島は，4歳6ヵ月♀，「サ」服用後黄疸，痙攣を惹起し，翌日遂に死亡した症例を夫々報告している。

Nagakura and Kodama report a case that ended in fatality due to administration of san-tonin. A man, aged 76, because of the diagnosis of ascaris infestation was given santonin in an amount of 0.06 g per dose for two doses to be taken on consecutive days. After taking the drug the patient developed a high fever of 40 degrees centigrade with acutely itching rashes breaking ont over the body and on the mucous membrane of the mouth. One month later these rashes reappeared with toxic albuminurea and symptoms of deranged liver functions. The patients showed signs of marked debilita-tion which finally resulted in complication with pneumonia and death.
