I．はじめに

　視床下部の視交叉上核（suprachiasmatic nucleus；SCN）の電気刺激や破壊，さらにこの核への薬物の微量注入実験から，SCNは動物の種々の行動やホルモン含量などのサーカディアンリズムの発生源として非常に重要な脳部位であると考えられている。ラットの飲水，摂食行動のサーカディアンリズムに対するSCNの部分破壊の影響を調べた研究や，SCNの組織学的研究や，SCN内の神経伝達物質の役割を調べた研究などから，SCNは非常に小さな核であるにもかかわらず機能的に分化している可能性があることが最近注目されつつある。したがってSCNニューロンの生理的役割について機能分化の観点から述べる。

Abstract

Histologically, the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) is divided into two subgroups i.e., the dorsomedial part and the ventrolateral part where the optic nerve fibers, serotonergic and many peptidergic fibers terminate.

The SCN is important in the regulation ofvarious behavioral and hormonal circadian rhythms, since bilateral lesions of the SCN abolished circa-dian rhythm and some drugs injected into the SCN produced a phase shift of the circadian rhythm. However, there has so far been no detailed study of functional difference in the SCN.
