膀胱尿道造影はその目的と造影手技とで二つに大別できる。一つは排尿時膀胱尿道造影（Micturating Cystourethrography，MCUまたはVoiding Cystography，VCG）であり，これは文字通り造影剤をもって排尿の各相を連続的に撮影し，膀胱尿道の形態と機能を視覚的にとらえるものである。
残る一つは排尿とは逆の流れ，すなわち造影剤を尿道から膀胱へと注入し撮影するものであり尿道膀胱造影（Urethrocystography，UCGあるいはRetrograde Urethrography）と呼ばれ尿道の形態面のみに主眼をおいた造影法である。
Micturating Cystourethrography (MCU)/Voiding Cystourethrography (VCG) is essential examination to investigate patients suspected of having the lower urinary tract abnormalities. For the purpose of demonstrating urodynamics nature, sequential spot filming is necessary under fluoroscopic control.
MCU was classified into 5 patterns according to features in the bladder neck and the posterior urethra and pathological conditions were discussed.
Transrectal Sonographic Voiding Cystourethrography 'the new technique' was introduced.
