　Neuropeptide Y（NPY）は，ほ乳類の脳内ペプチドの中で最も強力な摂食亢進作用を持つ物質として知られている。摂食や体重調節に関与する以外にも，生体の多彩な機能の調節に関わっている。NPY受容体は6つのサブタイプが知られており，それぞれのサブタイプが複数のリガンドと異なる結合親和性を持つことで，多彩な機能を発揮すると考えられる。近年，遺伝子組み換え動物の進歩で，各種受容体の機能の解析が可能になった。ここでは個々の受容体の機能を解説し，今後の治療面での展望を述べる。

はじめに

　Neuropeptide Y（NPY）は，1982年に発見されたペプチドで，PPファミリーペプチド（pancreatic polypeptide, Peptide YY）の1つである。NPYは，ほ乳類の脳内ペプチドのなかでもっとも強力な摂食亢進作用を持つ物質として知られ，肥満症との関連で注目を浴びている。さらに近年，脳内NPYが消化管の空腹期運動と密接に関連していることが報告され，脳と腸の機能相関の観点からも重要なペプチドである。

　Neuropeptide Y（NPY）is the most potent central chemical stimulant of feeding known in a variety of vertebrate species. NPY has been shown to affect diverse physiological functions including effects on metabolism, blood pressure, anxiety, body temperature, circadian rhythm, memory as well as gastrointestinal motility. Recently its effect to induce the NPY activates at least six receptor subtypes, Y1-y6, and NPY analogs as well as PYY and PP exhibit varying degrees of affinity and specificity for these Y receptors. Newly developed gene knockout or transgenic techniques are the powerful tool to analyze the function of each receptor subtype. In this report, we describe the various functions of each NPY receptor subtype and discuss about the therapeutic meaning of receptor agonist and antagonist.
