　はじめに

　抗生物質が出現する以前には，口腔や咽頭の炎症に続発するdeep neck infectionや内頸静脈血栓症はしばしばみられ^1），ともに致命的な病態として恐れられていた。しかし，近年は抗生物質の使用により，これらの重篤な感染合併症は非常に稀なものとなった。

　内頸静脈血栓症は，その近傍の感染から生じることがよく知られているが，その他にも薬剤の頻回の静脈注射，中心静脈カテーテルの長期留置，外傷なども原因にあげられている。

Internal jugular vein thrombosis was frequently associated with head and neck infections in the pre-antibiotic era. But it became uncommon today because of the benefit of antibiotics.

We reported a case of internal jugular vein thrombosis who had suffered from sore throat for three days. In the course of treament, lung cancer and superior vena cava syndrome were found. We suspected that the cause of thrombosis was not only the cervical phlegmon but also the superior vena cava syndrome.
