　格子状変性への予防的光凝固後に，裂孔原性網膜剥離が発症した9例9眼を過去3年間に経験した。男性6例，女性3例で，年齢は18歳から72歳，平均45±18歳である。5例では網膜剥離の他眼の格子状変性に対して，その他の4例ではたまたま発見された格子状変性に対して予防的光凝固が行われていた。光凝固から網膜剥離が発症するまでの期間は2年5か月から19年，平均7.5±5.2年であった。網膜剥離の原因には2つのパターンがあった。5眼は弁状裂孔で，全例に後部硝子体剥離があった。4眼は萎縮円孔，3眼には後部硝子体剥離がなかった。以上の症例は，予防的光凝固が必ずしも奏効しないことを示している。奏効しなかったのは，おそらく全例で後部硝子体剥離が末発の時期に光凝固が行われたためと推定した。

We observed 9 eyes in 9 cases of retinal detachment in spite of prophylactic photocoagulation for lattice degeneration. The series comprised 6 males and 3 females. Their ages ranged from 18 to 72 years, average 45 ± 18 years. Photocoagulation had been performed in the fellow eye of retinal detachment in 5 cases and for lattice degenera-tion detected by chance in 4 cases. The interval between photocoagulation and retinal detachment ranged from 29 months to 19 years, average 7.5 ± 5.2 years. There were two types in the cause of retinal detachment. It was induced by horseshoe tear in 5 eyes. Posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) was present in all the 5 eyes. It was induced by atro-phic hole located in the area of lattice degeneration in 4 eyes. PVD was absent in 3 of these eyes. The findings show that prophylactic photocoagulation may not prevent eventual retinal detachment, particularly when photocoagulation is performed before PVD has set in.
