　57歳女性が10日前からの右眼の霧視と充血で紹介され受診した。右眼の矯正視力は0.5であり，前房に強い炎症，硝子体混濁，眼底に典型的な急性網膜壊死の所見があった。左眼には異常がなかった。初診日に採取した前房水から，PCR法でEpstein-Barr virusとvaricella zoster virusのDNAが検出された。薬物投与と手術で病変は鎮静化し，最終矯正視力0.6を得た。Epstein-Barr virusはヘルペスウイルス群に属するので、これが病変に関与した可能性がある。

A 57-year-old woman presented with hyperemia and blurring in her right eye since 10 days before. Her corrected visual acuity was 0.5 right. Her right eye showed severe anterior uveitis, vitreous opacity, and typical findings of acute retinal necrosis. Her left eye was free of pathological findings. We aspirated the aqueous humor in the right eye on the day of her visit. Processing by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) showed Epstein-Barr virus and varicella zoster virus DNAs in the sample. Ultimate cure was obtained in the affected eye following medication and surgery with the final visual acuity of 0.6. There is a possibility that Epstein-Barr virus, which belongs to the group of herpes virus, may have played a role in the pathogenesis in this patient.
