フルオロフォトメトリーを用いてアトピー性皮膚炎患者49例97眼の結膜上皮のバリアー機能について評価し，健常者，アレルギー性結膜炎患者，ヒスタミン点眼誘発試験と比較，検討した。測定にはアンテリアフルオロメーターFL−500（興和）を用い，球結膜におけるフルオレセインの取り込み濃度からバリアー機能を評価した。測定結果は，アレルギー性結膜炎とヒスタミン誘発試験では健常者との間に取り込み濃度に有意差はなかったが，アトピー性皮膚炎患者では有意に取り込み濃度が高かった（p＜0.0005）。したがって，アレルギー性結膜炎やヒスタミン点眼誘発試験と異なり，アトピー性皮膚炎患者では結膜上皮のバリアー機能が低下していることが示唆された。
We evaluated the bulber conjunctival barrier function of patients with atopic dermatitis using an anterior fluorometer, and compared it with the conjunctival barrier function of normal controls, allergic conjunctivitis patients and histamine-induced conjunctivitis patients. We used a FL-500 anterior-fluoro-meter (Kowa) and obtained the fluorescein uptake, which is an index of the conjuctival barrier function. There was no statistically significant difference in fluorescein uptake between normal controls and allergic conjunctivitis patients, or between normal controls and histamine-induced conjunctivitis patients ; but there was significant difference between normal controls and atopic dermatitis patients. We suggested that the conjunctival barrier function in allergic conjunctivitis and histamine-induced conjunctivitis is intact, but that the conjunctival barrier function of patients who have atopic dermatitis is diminished
