  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

As we discovered that "GABOB" and "GOBAB" are clinically efficacious against peripheral paralysis, various tests have been made to ascertain precisely what effects they have on peripheral nerves:

(1) Both "GABOB" and "GOBAB" act stimulatively upon the muscles of the peripheral nervous system (end plates as well as muscle fibers), and the effect is more conspicuous in the case of "GABOB" than in the case of "GABOB".

(2) The E. M. G. findings of spastic muscles (the spinal cat) showed a decrease in the number of spikes and an increase in the kinetic amplitude im-mediately after the intravenous injection was made, and a few minutes later, it showed a motor unit discharge with many spikes.

(3) The "VT-curve" of a spinal cord injury case shifted to a normal curve after the injection.

(4) Against the peripheral circulatory system and the vegetative nervous system, they are recognized to have the effects of bradycardia and of dropping the blood pressure, and though both the amplitude of the finger plethysmograph and the quantity of tidal air were observed to increase at first, they returned to normal condition in five minutes.

(5) They did not show any influence on the heart, but the blood pressure of the subject rose im-mediately after the injection; five minutes later, however, it showed a slightly lower pressure than the original level.

(6) From these results, it was ascertained that both "GABOB" and "GOBAB" act stimulatively upon the peripheral nerves (especially upon the part following the end plate) and that they also give a slight stimulus to the parasympathetic nerves including vagi.
