Vitiligo vulgaris with re-pigmentation observed following heart transplantation
Hatchome, Naokazu1)Tsuchiyama, Kenichiro1)Aiba, Setsuya1) 1)Department of Dermatology, Tohoku University School of Medicine
The patient was a 63-year-old man who developed depigmented spots on his face and most of his body 20 years prior to his first visit to our department. He was diagnosed with vitiligo vulgaris by a local physician and was started on topical therapy. His condition did not improve, and in one year, almost his complete face was depigmented. Four months before visiting us, the patient underwent heart transplantation for dilated hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in our hospital’s cardiac surgery department. He was taking several immunosuppressants during his recovery. Rapid re-pigmentation was observed four weeks after the procedure, primarily on his face. This was apparently due to the polydrug regimen of immunosuppressants. This case report is accompanied by a literature discussion.
