Wnt signaling system controls diverse biological phenomena through development and adulthood of all animals. Canonical Wnt signaling is well characterized and its defect causes abnormalities in bone metabolism. Furthermore, Wnt5a, a typical non-canonical ligand, has been shown to play an important role in osteoblast differentiation. In addition, recent studies have revealed that LRP5 regulates bone mass by inhibiting duodenal synthesis of serotonin.
