Point of care ultrasound(POCUS)is a medical practice method that consists of two parts:the technical aspect(ultrasound image depiction of a human body)and its clinical application method(point of care). Although there are many clinical applications of POCUS in the perioperative medical field, the strength of the applications’ evidence level and the motivation for the use of POCUS vary among the application techniques. Some POCUS examinations are performed as standard techniques that are supported by established evidence. In addition, an anesthesiologist’s suspicion that something is wrong regarding the patient is another important motivation to perform POCUS in order to prevent the development of severe complications, but this depends greatly on the anesthesiologist’s experience level. The use of artificial intelligence(AI)technology for accumulated ultrasound images in both normal and disease situations would improve the clinical limitations of POCUS and enable skillful POCUS applications even by inexperienced anesthesiologists.
