Aim: To develop an intervention program for nurses and nursing assistants to recognize nursing assistant roles and examine the effects of the program on their perceptions of these roles and the nursing team approach.

Methods: An intervention program was developed in which nurses and nursing assistants participated together for one hour per session. It was conducted in one ward in each of three facilities from August to December 2020. Nurses and nursing assistants received questionnaires to assess their perceptions of the roles of nursing assistants and their team approach before, immediately after, and one month after the intervention.

Results: The analysis included 32 nurses and 14 nursing assistants who responded to the survey. The nurses' scores for their perceptions of the nursing assistant roles did not differ between before and one month after the intervention, but their scores for their team approach increased. There was no significant change for the nursing assistants.

Conclusion: The intervention program developed in this study was implemented, and it was suggested that while the program does not change the nurses' perception of the roles of nursing assistant, it can enhance their perception of their team approach. Further research with a larger number of nurses and nursing assistants is needed to verify the results of this study.
