Abstract

A computer communication develops as a new pattern. The purpose of this study was to reveal the communication structure of nursing mailing lists on The Internet. We analyze them. The results were as follows:

1) The subscribers on mailing list were almost from the countries speaking English, and Japanese subscribers were very few.

2) In kind of mail, “proposal” and “comment” were about 40%, “offering information” was about 10%, “question” and “answer” were about 40%. Mailing list was available to make the declaration of intentions concerning nursing issues and to exchange concrete nursing information.

3) On features of communication, the discussions were not to lead results, but to exchange opinions on the network. Occasionally same themes repeated, and mail subject changed with developing.

From these findings, mailing list are effective for exchanging nursing information among English speakers. Therefore we think that the nursing mailing list in which they can use Japanese is important for nursing network.
