The purpose of this study was to clarify differences of awareness of diabetes and self-efficacy between high school students and their parents, and to obtain basic educational data for the prevention of diabetes. Seventy seven pairs comprisinghig h school students and their parents were participated. The survey items were as follows; attributes, 8 items includingawareness of diabetes based on the Health Belief Model by Becker and the self-efficacy scale developed by Scherer. Although awareness of diabetes, adult disease and relation between lifestyle habit and diabetes, with no significant between? groups, awareness of complications and interest in diabetes was significantly-low in students less than their parents generation (p<0.001,p<0.01). However, the sense of self-efficacy higher in the student group (p<0.001), we can expect that would instigate their behavioral changes. We conclude that the development of new educational program to solidify the students' knowledge of the complications and enhance their awareness of prevention for diabetes should be necessary.
