It is the purpose of this study to develop a body sensation care model for patients with Type 2 diabetes that helps such patients recognize their own body conditions. The study is a descriptive design, and focuses on ten patients with Type 2 diabetes. Body sensation care is process in which a nurse tests patient's sensation based on the five senses, deep sense, sense of equilibrium, and visceral sense of the patient, and encourages the patient to look at and touch the body part of interest through inspection, palpation, and percussion. In body sensation care, a nurse further gives the patient information on his/her body condition and presents the way of body care while paying attention to his/her response. The study indicates a nurse's close attention to response from a patient and presentation of care for controlling body conditions allow the patient to recognize his/her own body sensation, expect future body conditions, feel a new sensation, and become aware of a body part that the patient has not looked at or touched before. As a result, the body sensation care model for patients with Type 2 diabetes can help patients face and recognize their body conditions, which will be a good approach for caring patients with Type 2 diabetes.
