The purpose of this study is to examine the characteristics of learning needs of the elderly with physical disabilities in comparison with those of healthy elderly (i.e., participants of Elder College). Comparative surveys on learning needs were conducted and 11 areas of learning needs were compared between following two groups ; 334 elderly (60+) with physical disabilities and 682 healthy elderly (60+) who participate in Elder College.
Results presented that the range of learning needs of elderly with physical disabilities were narrower than the counterpart. Ratios of learning needs on communication with other elderly, gardening and pottery were higher than Elder College attendants. Ratios of learning needs on calligraphy, overnight trip and use of transportation, life review were also high. In relation to the degree of ADL, the needs of communication with other elderly, life review, computers were higher in the "Dependent" Group. Contributive needs (e.g., volunteering) were detected among more than half of the elderly with physical disabilities.
