Objective: The hypothesis that standard desk and chair height are not suitable for elderly was examined through literature review.

Method: Information was collected on the MEDLINE, Japana Centra Revno Medicina, internet, etc.

Results: Standard desk and chair heights are used in most institutions. However, desks for wheelchairs in institutions are 5 centimeters higher than standard desks. Little research has been done on adapting desk and chair heights for the elderly.

The most suitable desk and chair height computation principles are found in ergonomics. These principles were applied to the body measurements of the elderly, and it was determined that the standard desk and chair heights are too high especially for the women.

Conclusion: It is necessary that more reseach be done to explore and improve the desk and chair heights for the elderly.
