Support for parents who raise severely multiply-handicapped children is one of the important purpose of occupational therapy. An understanding of nursing by parents is required for occupational therapist to provide proper support to them. The purposes of this study were to explore the views of nursing by two pairs of parents and to discuss methods of family support.

We performed half-structural interviews with the parents, and analyzed their views of nursing on the basis of prepared charts from life histories provided by the parents. The parents recognized that nursing deepened the family bond and helped them grow.

For this reason, we could point that the parents accepted their child as they were and understood that their child existed in social surroundings.

As for methods of family support, we considered the types of the relationships for both parent-parent and parent-child, as well as support for parents and children to lead meaningful lives together.
