At our university hospitals, we conduct a weekly occupational therapy clinic (OTC) in which inpatients and outpatients can participate freely, as long as they participate within national guidelines. We have conducted the OTC since 1993, and we examined its effect on education and treatment.

The effects of OTC are primary recreation and expression of a healthy ego. There are secondary effects: 1) Sufficing of narcissism; 2) testing their recovery; 3) Experience of adaptative bahavior. Because OTC has an acceptable environment by a treatment-structure viewpoint.

The OTC does not treat illness directly, but supports patients' lives in the hospital, and compensates for the direct treatment of illness by building the patient's healthy ego.
