It was revealed that the improvement of occupational participation had an positive influence on the concept of “IKIGAI” through a six-month follow-up survey on 458 community dwelling inhabitants over 50 years old in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan. The occupational participation was measured by the Self-completed Occupational Performance Index (SOPI), and the concept of “IKIGAI” was measured by the Ikigai-9. A multiple regression analysis was carried out, and we assumed the SOPI score as an independent variable and the Ikigai-9 scores as dependent variables. The data analysis indicated that the change in the SOPI score during the six month period had a positive influence on both the Ikigai-9 total score (β=.35, p<.001) and the three domain scores (β=.22-.36, p<.001), after being adjusted for age, sex and socioeconomic factors.
